This week in Maths we are practicing our skills of estimation. Follow the link to purple mash.
You need to estimate how many items are in the picture. Use the estimation word bank to help you.
In English we have been looking at conjunctions. Try the alien adventure game on Purple mash.
Please remember to Hand in your work.
Today we will be writing a recount of our Christmas holidays. Please read through the following powerpoint to give you some ideas on how you can structure your writing.
Along with the tasks below I have also sent you a gingerbread recipe to your email. Please check that you can log in and have received this email from me. If you have any trouble just Dojo me a message. Tomorrow we will be having a Teams meeting at 10:00 am with the whole class. I want to make sure that everyone can attend our online Christmas meeting. It will be so nice to see you all to wish you a Happy Christmas!
Today’s tasks:
For Maths: can you figure out how many gifts you would be given during the 12 days of Christmas. Watch the 12 days of Christmas song and have a go.
I’ll give you help with the first part.
After the first day you would have 1 partridge in a pear tree.
After the second day you would have 2 french hens and 2 partridges in a pear tree altogether. So you would have 4 gifts altogether after the second day!
Extension questions:
How many birds did you receive?
How many gold rings did you get?
Finally, how many dancing people were you given. (leaping counts as dancing).
English:
Today in school we will be watching Jack and the Beanstalk the Pantomime. If you know the story well and would like to complete the comprehension please do. J & B Online Comprehension.
Otherwise, please create an Acrostic poem based on a Christmas word. Christmas, Santa, Rudolf, Happy Christmas!
Here is a video to remind you how to write an acrostic poem.
Design and Technology:
Can you make a Minecraft Christmas character?
You will need:
Paper (does not have to be coloured)
Pens
Bits and Bobs to decorate (pipe cleaners, cotton wool, etc.)
Follow the video below to make paper boxes. Stack them on top of each other to make your Christmas character.
I hope you have enjoyed the Christmas themed home learning so far? Please find today’s tasks below.
Maths
Today we will be using our times tables to make some digital root stars. To learn how to do this, please watch the powerpoint below. You will also need to print a copy of one of the circles sheet below to complete the activity and a sharp pencil and ruler. You can either start your digital root stars with the first digital root in the times table, or you can start them at 0 (Depending on which sheet you choose). Each will produce different patterns.
Today we are going to compare and contrast the two Christmas adverts that we have looked at. Please watch both of the adverts again.
Now I would like you to compare and contrast the two adverts by finding the differences and similarities between the two adverts. While you are watching, them think about the following questions.
What is the message?
Is it animated?
What are the characters like?
Do you recognise any characters?
What is the music like?
What is it set?
Is there a problem – solution?
How does it make you feel?
– Love? Laughter? Tears? Emotion?
No can you use your ideas to complete the venn diagram below? I will be interested to hear which advert you preferred and why?
Good morning. Here are today’s home learning tasks.
Maths
At Christmas we may spend money on a special meal and presents for one another. To practice your ability to calculate totals, work out change and work to a budget, try one of the sheets below.
Can you please finish collaging your poppy designs from yesterday. You may want to choose a different material to use. You can add magazines, newspaper or felt. Next you will need to paint, or us a black fine liner to your finished designs if you wish to. I look forward to seeing your finished designs.
Christmas Craft
Can you make a Christmas card? Watch the videos below for some design ideas.
I hope you all had a nice relaxing weekend. If you feel well enough, please find today’s tasks below.
Maths
As this is the last week before Christmas, we will not be following the White Rose maths. Instead we will be completing a range of different Christmas challenges. Please choose a challenge to complete below.
For the next few days in English, I thought that we could look at some of the Christmas adverts that are on television at the moment. Please watch the video below.
Now try answer the questions below about the advert.
Today and tomorrow in school we will be completing our final poppy designs. Most of you will have planned this design in school. Can you please draw a neat square (with about 18-20 cm sides). You will then need to sketch a poppy – we have been using the work of Carol Nelson as an inspiration. Remember to think carefully about how you use the space.
You can then start to collage your poppy with you chosen materials. As you are at home, you may find it easier to use magazines or newspaper rather than other materials. Tomorrow you will finish your design by using paint or your other chosen medium. There are some ideas below of poppy collages that may inspire you.
