Home Learning Tuesday 12.01.21

Good morning class 2,

I was really pleased to see all of the work that you submitted yesterday. It’s great to see so many of you working hard! I will be in school today, so if there is anything that I can help you with message me on dojo, or I can set up a Teams chat with you. This morning, I will be phoning some of you to see how you are getting on with your home learning. If you don’t get a call or you are busy, don’t worry, more phone calls will be made at the end of this week and next week. A reminder as well that there is a Teams meeting for all at 1.30 this afternoon.  Please watch the video below outlining today’s work and I will speak to you this afternoon!

.Just like in Judith Kerr’s picture book – A Tiger Came to Tea, imagine that either a Bengal tiger or a different animal (perhaps a jaguar) paid you a visit.  How would they behave? Could you write a story about this? Try to write in the style of the book so that it can be enjoyed by younger children.

Year 3/4 – Can you include 2 list sentences, where you use what you learnt yesterday to  list adjectives. These can describe the animal, setting or emotions.

It was a cold, wet, miserable and misty morning.

Year 5 – Can you try and write two passive sentences using what you learnt yesterday? Perhaps you could emphasise what the animal has eaten/ broken by opening the sentence with the object?

e.g All of the plates in the cupboard were smashed (by the tiger).

There is also an animated version of this book if you would like to watch it.

Science

Today I would like you to think about rocks in your local environment.

Think about where you see rocks used in your local area, e.g.  bricks, roofing materials, playground, pavements, kerbs, walls, steps, posts. Some will be man- made and some will be naturally occurring.

Go for a walk around your local neighbourhood (if you are unable to, you could look in the home e.g. tiles worktops etc.) and look for rocks (e.g. church or cottages built of local stone, gravestones, dry stone walls). Draw and write what you see/have seen and describe the rock (or name it if you can). Please look at the powerpoint below and the survey sheet.

D&T

Today we will be starting a new unit in D&T, which we will complete over the next few weeks. I will hold a Teams meeting at 2.00 pm to talk through what we will be doing and for you to share your ideas. The task to complete following the meeting is below. I would like you to complete the first sheet, but if you are able to, you can also complete the pizza tasting sheet before the lesson next Tuesday ( only if you are having pizza as a meal – don’t worry – this is optional).

Good morning class 2.

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend? Thank you for all of your hard last week. Some of the work that I saw coming through on class dojo was brilliant!

I have added a video below to talk you through the activities on today’s website. Could you please send me a picture of your maths, science and English today, either by e mail or through class dojo.

Today I will have a Teams meeting at 3.00pm with the years fives for your spelling test. Year three and four, your spelling test will be completed on Thursdays. Your spellings for the following week will be updated once you have completed your test. Later today I will also be sending out Teams invitations for a meeting tomorrow. I will update on class dojo once these invitations have gone out.

Have a lovely day!

Maths

For your mental warm up, try playing the games below with an adult or sibling. You might have counters to use, or you could try different items e.g. pennies, beads. I have also included some printable counters for you to use if you cannot find anything else. If you could keep this game once you have printed it, I will set it for a warm up next week too.

Reading

On Fiction Express I would like you to read the next chapter of your book. I mentioned last week on the Teams meeting that some year three children may prefer to choose a book from the Oxford Owl website. You can create a free account to access different books from your child’s reading stage.

English

We will be completing a unit of work from the natural curriculum looking at grammar activities and writing linked to different animals. Please have a look below at the information video and then the video below will talk you through today’s  activity.

Today we will think about some of the different types of rocks and their properties. There are two videos for you to watch below. Then have a look at the sheet below. This contains some information about the different types of rock. Can you then decide which type of rock would be a good material to use for different purposes?

Can you play the following game to revise different word classes?

Reading

Can you please choose a book to read on Fiction Express. I would like you to read the first chapter of your book.

Science

Over the next few weeks we will be starting looking at rocks. Today I will like you to start to think about the properties of rocks. Can you please collect some different rocks from your garden or while you are walking. Study your rock samples. Get to know how it looks and feels; its colour, its texture (roughness/ smoothness), its hardness or crumbliness, any speckles or glittering. Can you divide your rocks into groups- e.g. the rocks that are crumbly/speckled.

Now can you draw your different rocks. Use pastels/pencils or wax crayons to draw each rock.  Look very closely at the rock and choose your colours  to make your drawing as realistic as possible. For example-

Now can you write a description of your rock.

Here is an example of a good description of a  rock:
‘This rock is mostly grey with patches of tiny white crystals. It has a rough and dusty texture’.

Please use the sheet below to draw your rocks or you could use some plain paper if you prefer.

Computing

Over the next couple of weeks we will be looking at online communication including emails, websites and blogging.

For your first task, can you explore the BBC website about online communication. Then I would like you to remind yourselves about how to send an email. Can you please log in to your e mail account and send me an e mail? I would like to hear about what you have done over the Christmas holidays. You can also tell me about the work that you have completed today and anything that you have enjoyed.
