Babcock Spellings
Your child will learn spellings daily in school this year and will not be bringing any home to learn or having weekly tests. Babcock spellings is a structured approach to teaching spelling that helps children develop strong spelling skills in a systematic way. Each week, pupils focus on specific spelling patterns or rules, building their understanding through practise, repetition, and interactive activities. This method not only helps children recognise common spelling patterns, but also supports their vocabulary and reading development. By using Babcock spellings, we aim to make spelling practice engaging and effective, giving pupils the tools they need to become confident and capable writers.
This term in class 2 we are trialling a different way of learning our spellings. We will have 5 new spellings each week. We will then be tested on the these five spellings, as well as the spellings we have learnt in previous weeks. We will be tested on a total of 25 spellings in week 5. Week 6 will then revisit any spellings that we found difficult.
We are trying this new approach with the idea that the frequent retrieval and use of these spellings should help to embed them into our long term memory.
Please find the pdf versions below for group 1 and 2.
