Daily Reading

Reading every night (10 minutes)

At our small, friendly village school, we truly believe in the power of reading. We are proud to be ‘Leading in Reading,’ where every child is encouraged to dive into books and get lost in the world of stories. We are delighted that many of our pupils go on to receive awards at County level for their creative writing, which all starts with the love of books. Research shows that early reading not only boosts vocabulary and comprehension but also enhances creativity and critical thinking skills. By fostering a love of reading, we help our children build confidence, expand their imaginations, and lay the foundation for lifelong learning. We also know that reading together at home with parents plays a crucial role in this journey—sharing stories, discussing plots, and exploring new words all help to deepen understanding and strengthen the bond between parent and child. In our school, every book is an adventure, and we’re excited to guide your child on their reading journey, both in school and at home!

Number Fluency

TTRS 3 minutes daily practise

Research shows that strong times tables knowledge is critical for children’s mathematical development, as it builds a foundation for more advanced skills, including problem-solving, mental arithmetic, and understanding patterns in numbers. Quick and accurate recall of multiplication facts significantly reduces cognitive load, allowing students to tackle complex math tasks with confidence and ease. Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) supports this essential learning by providing an engaging, research-backed approach that encourages regular practice and improves recall speed. Through consistent TTRS use and targeted support, we help our students achieve excellent results, often surpassing national averages in the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) and equipping them with vital skills for lifelong math success.

Numbots 3 minutes daily practise

Research highlights the importance of developing strong number sense in the early stages of math learning, as it lays the groundwork for future success in more complex mathematical concepts. Numbots is an engaging, research-based program designed to strengthen key skills such as number recognition, addition, subtraction, and mental math through fun, interactive games. By building fluency in these foundational areas, Numbots helps children develop a deeper understanding of numbers and improves their problem-solving abilities. Regular practice with Numbots ensures that students build confidence and competence in basic arithmetic, setting them up to achieve high levels of mathematical proficiency as they progress.

White Rose Maths homework books are designed to support children’s learning in maths by reinforcing key concepts taught in class. These books provide a range of engaging, carefully structured practice questions that allow children to build confidence and mastery at their own pace. The tasks align closely with our classroom lessons, helping pupils to deepen their understanding of topics and develop essential problem-solving skills. With White Rose Maths, we aim to make maths accessible and enjoyable, supporting your child in becoming a confident, skilled mathematician. A dojo will be sent out with the pages your child will need to do, how to support them and when the homework is due in.

Spellings 2024-2025

Babcock Spellings

Your child will learn spellings daily in school this year and will not be bringing any home to learn or having weekly tests. Babcock spellings is a structured approach to teaching spelling that helps children develop strong spelling skills in a systematic way. Each week, pupils focus on specific spelling patterns or rules, building their understanding through practise, repetition, and interactive activities. This method not only helps children recognise common spelling patterns, but also supports their vocabulary and reading development. By using Babcock spellings, we aim to make spelling practice engaging and effective, giving pupils the tools they need to become confident and capable writers.
