This week has been a mixture of British Science Week and Mother’s Day. We have:
* Made Mother’s Day cards.
*Made flowers and thought about why we love our Mummy.
*Made a wormery.
*Used torches to look through our skin.
*Done some love heart threading.
*Bikeability.
We have had a lovely but busy ‘World Book Day Week’.
*On Monday our focus story was ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. We had fun in the messy tuff tray, made a Bear Hunt map using the story, did some Bear Hunt yoga and went on an outdoor bear hunt of our own!
* Tuesday – The Very Hungry Caterpillar and we made some beautiful butterflies and had some snacks that the caterpillar ate in the story.
*Wednesday – Goldilocks and the Three Bears and we went to Forest School to find the characters. In the afternoon we had some lovely warm porridge and tried some different toppings.
*Thursday – World Book Day: We had a bear shaped snack (mini pancakes with fruit), Three Little Pigs tuff tray and did some great character and setting cutting which the children then stuck on to boxes.
In the afternoon we had a ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ themed Forest school with Mrs. T and even got to toast some marshmallows!
*Friday – Gruffalo and we made a Gruffalo crumble and some tree themed place names.
We have had a lovely first week back! Lots of great play which the children have initiated themselves.
We have also:
*Looked for signs of Spring.
*Enjoyed a very muddy Forest School session.
*Learnt about St. David’s Day and Wales, eating leek and potato soup, Welsh Rarebit and Welsh cakes. The children even learnt to count to five in Welsh!
This half term our topic will be Spring. This is the basis of our planning for the next five weeks, however they are not steadfast plans and may change according to the children’s interests. As well as the plans below we will of course also be celebrating World Book Day!
A very busy week!
We started off the week with lots of fun in Nursery garden, getting very muddy!
We have also:
* Learnt about Lunar New Year (including Chinese number painting) and tasted lots of foods.
* Made Valentine’s Day cards.
* Enjoyed big mark making activities.
* Joined in with Forest School.
* Visited the library van.
* Talked about where we belong, including Nursery and home (for Children’s Mental Health Week).
* Had pancakes.
* Done some yoga and workouts.
* Made chocolate treats for Valentine’s Day.
This week we continued our topic of Dinosaurs, particularly focussing on fossils.
We have done:
* Fabulous number work using dinosaurs and cones.
*Some work outs to burn some energy.
* Our first Forest School session of the year had to be inside but we learnt all about hedgehogs and then made some clay ones.
We have also been artists this week making dinosaur fossils with air dry clay and then painting them and today we finished off the week by making some ammonite shaped bread.
Another busy week this week! We continued our topic of Dinosaurs and the ‘How to Look After Your Dinosaur’ story.
Here’s what we’ve been up to!
*Finding things that help us to look after a dinosaur (in Forest School).
*Sowing seeds to grow dinosaur food.
*Drawing parts of the story on big paper.
*Making dinosaur masks.
*Making banana pancakes.
Next week we will begin to look at farms. Following some of my research we will be doing some of this with Enquiry Based Learning. Here are our plans:
*What do we already know about farms? (EBL)
*Animal cutting and junk box barn making.
*Learning new farm animal themed Nursery Rhymes.
*What do we want to learn about farms? (EBL)
*Challenge Time: Art – mixing colours.
*Farm animal yoga.
*Farm animal sounds lotto.
As always we will do many more child initiated things but along with our phonics sessions these are the planned adult activities.
The children are going to have a busy week this week with their challenges! They will need to rescue the town, it’s people and Pete the parrot from the evil pea’s friend. This week is a surprise for them so please don’t tell them what we will be doing!
Here’s what they will need to do to save the day:
* Thread some more superheroes to help with our challenge.
*Use our counting skills to rescue some of the town’s people.
*Challenge Time with Reception – exploring colours.
*Make a rocket using ‘tricky’ shapes.
*Woodland Wednesday.
*Make a ‘Superhero smoothie’.
*Make a jet pack to finally get rid of the baddie!
