Welcome to Class 2’s information page for the academic year 2025-2026. Here you will find out more about the topics we will be teaching during the current term. Each subject has a detailed, ‘Crucial Knowledge’ which includes previous learning, vocabulary, the knowledge for our children to understand and how this could be extended.

Please note: Physical Education will be on Monday and Friday.  (Your child will need to attend school in their P.E. kit on these days.).

Our current topic (Autumn 2025) in Class 2 is: WORLD WAR II

Retrieval Practice

At Cheswardine School, staff inform their practice with current research and are always looking for ways to improve the outcomes for our children. Retrieval practice is a powerful learning technique we use to help children strengthen their memory and deepen their understanding of what they’ve learned. By regularly recalling information they’ve previously studied—through activities like quizzes, discussions, or review exercises—students reinforce their knowledge and make it easier to remember in the long term. This approach helps children not only to retain facts but also to connect ideas and build confidence in what they know, supporting them as they progress through their learning journey.

Babcock Spellings

Your child will learn spellings daily in school this year and will not be bringing any home to learn or having weekly tests. Babcock spellings is a structured approach to teaching spelling that helps children develop strong spelling skills in a systematic way. Each week, pupils focus on specific spelling patterns or rules, building their understanding through practise, repetition, and interactive activities. This method not only helps children recognise common spelling patterns, but also supports their vocabulary and reading development. By using Babcock spellings, we aim to make spelling practice engaging and effective, giving pupils the tools they need to become confident and capable writers.

English – We use rich text to inspire the three strands of English, Reading, Oracy and Writing.
