Wellbeing and Mental Health

At Cheswardine Primary and Nursery School we are dedicated to supporting all of our children, parents / carers, staff and the wider community.

We understand that everyone experiences mental health differently so a “one size fits all” approach is not appropriate. We are embedding a culture of understanding and are passionate about the wellbeing of everyone within the community, ensuring that our knowledge of wellbeing and mental health is constantly being updated.

In school currently Mrs Battams is our Mental Health Lead and qualified Youth Mental Health First Aider.

What we have done

We have implemented a variety of different things to help support the mental health and wellbeing of our children, families, staff and the wider community. These include:

  • Employing a pastoral learning mentor in school: Mrs Swinnerton.
  • Introducing Angus the working therapy dog to the school community.
  • Whole school wellbeing days.
  • Celebrating key events related to mental health and wellbeing in school.
  • The school council now has three elected wellbeing ambassadors
  • We have access to the most up to date statistics and information relating to wellbeing and mental health.
  • Staff have received a variety of different training to further their understanding of mental health and wellbeing.

Future plans

  • Continue to raise awareness and support mental health and wellbeing across the school.
  • Conduct a pupil voice survey across the school.
  • We are very keen to work collaboratively with parents, utilising any skills or interests and hosting coffee mornings in school.
