As we will be looking at the Titanic, I thought we should try to find out about what life was like in 1912 compared to today. On the sheet below, you will see a comparison chart. Either copy a similar chart into your book or you can edit this sheet and print it. I would like Year 3 to compare 3 ways of life, year 4 to compare 4 ways of life and year 5 to compare 5 ways of life. You can choose any areas that you like. There is a video link at the bottom of the page for you to start your research but you may need to complete some research yourself. Try to include two – three bullet points for each year in each of your chosen ways of life.

As the weather is so good at the moment, I thought it might be interesting to complete a garden survey. We will try to complete another survey in the future so that we can make a  comparison of what we have found.  Please look at page 2 of the booklet below. You can either print the table or draw a similar table into your lined books. Complete the survey for 30 minutes in your garden recording the date, the time of day and the weather conditions when you do so.

Homework

In class two, we have listened to feedback given on parents’ evening and have looked at the amount and type of homework that we are setting. We have decided to change our homework system. Each week, children will be expected to practise their weekly spellings, read regularly at home and practise their times tables. Children will also be asked to complete a small task of their choosing towards a project that will be submitted at the end of the half term. We ask that parent complete a weekly log of their homework to make sure that the correct amount of time is being spent in each area.

Scary Writing Week.

Class 2 were very excited this morning for the start of our scary writing week. We imagined what our classroom would look like at midnight and have tried to develop powerful description appealing to our five senses. We look forward to developing these ideas into poems tomorrow.

In the afternoon we listened to the fantastic storyteller, Jake Evans. He made us all laugh and scared us through his storytelling techniques. We are hoping to borrow some of his ideas for creating atmosphere when we read our poems tomorrow.

Our New Times Table Targets

This year we will be working on improving our times table skills in maths. Every child has a target times table that they are working on. You can find their target times table at the back of their school planners. Each week we will be having a quick test to see if we can beat our scores from the week before. If they get their questions correct, they will get a sticker and will move on to a different focus times table. To help improve their speed and skills, children can practice on ‘Times Table Rockstars‘. You will find their logins at the front of their school planner.
