For the next two days you will have a creative writing task. Today you will plan and start to write you story and tomorrow you will finish your story. This is your task:
Time Travel
One evening you go to your computer and accidentally press one of the keys you have never pressed before. Suddenly you are transported into a different time! Your task is to write about where you travel to, what the place is like, who you meet and how you manage to get home again.
Planning Questions
Where did you travel to and what form did your transport/journey take? (Remember: You can travel back or forwards in time.) What is the place you visit like? Who do you meet? What are they like? How do you manage to get back home?
In your writing you could:
Describe the setting/period of time that you travel to;
Describe the thoughts and feelings of the person or people involved;
Try to make your reader share the experience through your choice of words and sentences.
In your writing you should:
Make your writing interesting for your reader – use verbs, adverbs and adjectives to achieve effects;
Present your ideas clearly, organising your writing into paragraphs;
Write using accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation;
Include an interesting beginning and ending for your writing.

During the Spring term we looked at the internet, what it was and how we use it. Can you create a poster on purple mash explaining what you learnt? Look for the 2do ‘about the internet’. Today we are going to look at a cloudy lesson again but this time thinking about the conversation that the two characters are having. Use the planning sheet below and try to write down some ideas about different things that the characters could be saying to each other.

Now we need to think about how we set speech out including speech punctuation as well as the punctuation that we use inside the inverted commas. Watch this video below. BBC – revise direct speech.
I would like you to write out the conversation that the two characters could be having. Year 3, try to write at least eight sentences, four from each character making sure that you punctuate the speech accurately. Year 4, make sure that you are using a range of verbs and better words than ‘said’. Year 5, try to write about the action as well as the dialogue. You could use some reported speech if you think it is appropriate to maintain the pace of the story.

I would like you to choose a family member and write a short biography about them. It could be the same family member that you have interviewed or you can choose somebody else if you prefer. Here is a template that you can use. You can type directly into the template or you can use the headings and write it neatly into your books.

I would like you to continue to work on your family tree from yesterday. When we return to school, I thought that you could bring in your family tree project to show to the class. I am looking forward to seeing what you produce. Remember that you can also take photographs of any work that you have done and email them to Mrs. Williams for the school display.

Today you will complete the interview that you prepared yesterday. You should have chosen someone in your family to interview and prepared some questions. Today can you contact your chosen person (perhaps through skype or facetime) and ask your questions? You could either record the interview while it is taking place and write down the answers to your questions neatly after the interview, or write down the answers after you ask the questions.
Topic
Today and tomorrow I would like you to complete a family tree. You can present this in anyway that you would like. Try to be imaginative. Perhaps you could use presentation software such as powerpoint to show you family tree before using a slide to give more detail about each person. You could draw out a poster of a tree and add family photographs to it. You should find lots of ideas online to get you started. If possible try to include dates on your family tree. You could also include photographs or any other information that you like.

Could you please ask someone in your house to test you on last week’s spellings?
This week you are going to develop a family tree. Over the next two days, I will ask you to interview a family member or members, create a short biography or description about a family member and to present your family tree (back to 4 generations – your great grandparents) in an interesting way.
Today in English, I would like you to prepare an interview with a family member. You will carry out your interview tomorrow. Think about who you could interview. If they don’t live in the same house as you perhaps you could arrange an interview via skype or facetime? Try to think about an interesting period of history that they lived through. Your interview could ask them questions about that. Try to plan at least ten questions to ask them but you may find that you want to ask more. You can watch the video below for some ideas.
Science
Can you design and build a boat using materials in your house? Don’t worry too much about the exact equipment you need. You could use any container that you think would be suitable. You can either print the sheet below, or just draw a picture straight into your book. Could you please try to label the force of upthrust and gravity on your drawing and then describe two improvements that you could make to your boat if you were to make your boat again.
